Tshepo Mokoena journalist author editor childhood Botswana about

I have more than ten years experience in digital storytelling across writing, editing and social media. I managed award-winning teams of writers at VICE in the UK, editing service journalism, trend pieces, interviews, op-eds, features and special projects for the youth market and later owning editorial strategy for VICE across Europe. I’ve also been on staff at New York Magazine and The Guardian.

My writing has been published by British Vogue, the Guardian Guide (RIP), British GQ, Crack Magazine, Time Out, Billboard and more. I’ve worked on editorial and creative for major clients including YouTube Music, Levi’s, Apple, Guardian Labs and Red Bull and written press biographies for musicians from Dizzee Rascal, Griff and Kamille to NAO.

I’ve also put my judgy nature to good use, as a five-time member of the Mercury Prize panel and on panels for several national journalism prizes. I’ve moderated live discussions from WebSummit in Lisbon to the Association of International Music Connected conference in London (even when my mic malfunctioned, this one time).
